How the Amazon FBM calculator works

With Fulfillment by Merchant, Amazon does not charge FBA fulfillment fees, because you or your 3PL warehouse ship the order. Your main Amazon cost is the referral fee, a percentage of the total sale price, which includes any shipping the buyer pays.

Your other costs sit outside Amazon: the product itself, the shipping label, the 3PL’s per-label fee if you use one, and packaging. The calculator adds them up so you can price before you list.

The formulaProfit = (item price + buyer shipping) − referral fee − product cost − shipping label − 3PL fee − packaging and other.

Costs every FBM seller should count

  • Referral feeA percentage of the sale price, set by category. Many categories charge 15%, some charge less, and minimum per-item fees can apply.
  • Shipping labelYou buy the carrier label for each order, through Amazon’s shipping tools or your own carrier account.
  • 3PL feeIf a 3PL warehouse stores and packs your orders, it charges a per-label fee, quoted upfront by each warehouse.
  • Packaging and returnsBoxes, fill, and an allowance for returns and replacements.
  • SubscriptionThe Professional selling plan has a monthly fee, spread across all your orders.

Amazon FBM calculator questions

Have a question about your own account? Bring it to a strategy call.

Does Amazon FBM have fulfillment fees?

No FBA fulfillment fees apply, because you or your 3PL ship the order. You still pay Amazon’s referral fee on each sale, plus your own shipping, 3PL, and packaging costs.

Is the referral fee charged on shipping?

Yes. Amazon calculates the referral fee on the total sales price, which includes any shipping charge the buyer pays.

What referral fee should I enter?

It depends on your product category. Many categories are 15%, but some are lower and minimum fees apply. Check Amazon’s current fee schedule for your category.

What does a 3PL charge for FBM orders?

Most 3PL warehouses charge a per-label fee for picking, packing in a plain box, labeling, and courier drop-off. Every warehouse quotes differently, so enter your own rate.

What is a good FBM profit margin?

It varies by category and strategy. Many sellers want enough margin to absorb returns, price competition, and advertising. Use the calculator to test prices before listing.
